Artist's Statement

It’s a love affair with fabrics! The colors, the textures, the swoosh of yard goods... I have always been interested in art involving fabrics: pattern-making, clothing design, and quilting.

Quilting became a hobby over ten years ago when I began making whimsical quilts for my daughter. The hobby turned to passion after I received a packet of squares of African fabrics. Those pieces became the work entitled “Tribal.” The vibrancy and power in the African fabrics opened the door to a journey that continues to this day.

Using primarily African and African-inspired fabrics, I work in partnership with Spirit and Intuition to create quilts that are often used in meditation, ritual, and ceremony. These works are not “pre-designed” as such, but evolve organically as the theme develops. “Art as Meditation” is the concept that frames my work and is the title of the workshops I teach.

My works are quilts, in the traditional sense: 3 layers, large enough to wrap oneself in, washable, durable.. .and art/contemporary in the theme and designs.

Please contact me for private commissions.
